A Revival of Beauty

We become what we behold.

And what our daughters are beholding โ€” scrolling, consuming, comparing โ€” is not the feast their souls were made for.

Something has been lost. Not just beauty in the aesthetic sense โ€” but beauty as formation, as wonder, as the language the soul uses to find its way back to God. She Beholds Beauty is a movement to reclaim it โ€” for our daughters, and for ourselves.

She Beholds Beauty is a movement to pursue beauty that transcends โ€” awakening the heart, lifting the soul, and leading to a life of wonder.

Something is forming our daughters.
The question is what.

The rising tide of anxiety, loneliness, and depression among girls is not simply a screen-time problem. It is a beauty problem. We have drifted from the transcendent โ€” from the nature, art, poetry, music, and sacred wonder that once ordered the soul and pointed it toward God. Our daughters are scrolling through thousands of images a day and beholding almost nothing worth becoming.

"A culture that has ceased to value beauty has cut itself off from the sources of transcendence โ€” and, in doing so, has also cut itself off from the sense that life is worth living."

โ€” Sir Roger Scruton

As a mother of 24 years, I've often wondered โ€” and been intentional about โ€” what is capturing our daughters' attention, and forming them.

It's no secret that social media has especially impacted girls. Artificial trends, images designed to shock and enrage, the endless scroll โ€” they've brought on anxiety, comparison, and the quiet erosion of wonder. And in these middle formative years, mothers and daughters can feel more distant, more disengaged. Relationships strain. Connection slips. I've been there.

But I've also seen what happens when you infuse wonder into ordinary days โ€” waking my girls at midnight to chase the stars, hunting for bright murals among the gritty streets of the city. These moments gave us more than memories. They grew our bonds. We are all drawn to beauty, and experiencing it together leaves a mark on the soul.

In these growing years, our girls don't need to be told "Love yourself" or to harness their "Girl power." They need to be told โ€” look outside yourself. Seek beauty and meaning that transcends. It calls us upward and onward, moving us from despair to delight.

Let's begin a revival of beauty together!
